Jahorina is one of the most beautiful olympic mountains, with the highest peak of Ogorjelica at 1916 meters above sea level. It is a very popular destination for lovers of winter sports, as well as for all nature lovers and clean mountain air.

The history of skiing on Jahorina can be from 1923. Namely, the first skiers come to the mountain that year, and at the same time the construction of the first hotel with 70 beds ( Šator ) began.

The hotel was accessible by wood, and the first road to Jahorina was built in 1925. It was built by the Royal Army, and according to the order of King Alexander himself, the building of the Armed Forces House with 80 beds was built. In 1933, the first independent ski organization called Ski Club Sarajevo was founded in Sarajevo, and the first official competitions in the alpine disciplines started.

During the Second World War, the facilities on Jahorina were destroyed and burned, but in 1947 electricity and even a telephone connection came to Jahorina, and already in 1950, the union house ” Jahorina ” was built, with 95 beds. In 1955, the house ” Košuta ” was built with 45 beds, in 1959, the house ” Partizan ” with 120 beds, and in 1960, the villa ” Bistrica ” with 44 beds, the ” Mladost ” home, with 94 beds was built in 1961.

The beginning of ” modern ” tourism dates back to 1975 when the first comfortable and modern hotel with 320 beds was built.

The breakthrough of the vertical transport is the first one-hour lane with 102 barges and a capacity of 360 passengers per hour. The starting station was at the hotel Jahorina at 1660 m / nv, and it arrived at Golja Jahorina at 1885 m / nv.

In 1954, the Sarajevo Ski Club was founded, which is the beginning of more intensive work on the improvement of the skiing sport on Jahorina. Already in 1957, the Third Youth Championship of the Alpine countries was held. In 1975, the European Men’s Cup was held as well as the ” Golden Fox ” race in the Women’s World Championship.

The peak of skiing at Jahorina is the XIV Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo in 1984, and Jahorina then hosted the world’s best skiers in alpine disciplines, and the victory of Bojan Križaj in the World Cup is remembered. In 1987, Bojan Križaj won the Crystal Globe in this elite competition.

There were no events during the Civil War in BiH (1992-1995). They were thrown out of the tourist and ski stories, but in 1996, sportsmen and other lovers of mountain beauty, Jahorina slowly began to return the old glow, but also Olympic smile.
